Xīn Nián Kuài Lè… 新年快樂… Happy New Year!

The year of the dragon is upon us! We kicked off the new year’s festivities with an incredible school-wide celebration at our beautiful, newly opened theater. Nearly every student was involved in the production, which included traditional Chinese dances, songs, musical performances, Chinese yo-yo, tai chi, and a fashion show. Everyone involved did a phenomenal job! Huge props go out to our school’s Mandarin teachers who organized the performance!

Caught someone peeking from backstage!

The year of the dragon rang in with wave after wave of bone-rattling blasts and bursts of vibrant lights. While we’ve grown rather accustomed to the jolting sound of firecrackers since moving to China, this display was really something! The sky was literally ablaze and the noise was deafening. We bundled ourselves in layer after layer, and then waddled out into the frigid night air. We stood on our balcony in wide-eyed wonder at the brilliant display. It was truly an incredible experience, and one we are sure to remember always!

Our balcony provided us with a panoramic view of the dazzling fireworks. Of course an iphone camera doesn’t do the experience justice, but you’ll get an idea of how close some were, as well as how our skyline looked at midnight…
